| ALL OUT to meeting of Take Back WBAI Coalition – Help us plan a fight-back! Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7:00 PM Dist. Council 1707 at 75 Varick St., north of Canal St., 14th floor (A, C, E, 1 trains to Canal St.) 10,000+ Qualified Voters NOT Sent Ballots After getting HUNDREDS of voter complaints about not receiving ballots, Pacifica’s National Election Supervisor, Les Radke, finally admitted to a MASSIVE DISENFRANCHISEMENT OF WBAI VOTERS. On Monday’s night’s conference call of the Pacifica National Board’s Election Committee, Radke acknowledged that almost two-thirds (10,000+) of those entitled to vote were NOT sent ballots. Plus, more than 60% (8,878) of those sent ballots were NOT qualified to vote (lapsed members). This was, he said, because the wrong membership list was used. Many other problems with the voting process were identified on the call. Radke said he will soon send another 10,000+ ballots to those entitled to vote. He has extended the deadline for returning ballots two weeks to Nov. 15. This is totally inadequate on many grounds. Pacifica’s Interim Executive Director Grace Aaron, also on the call, admitted that “this was a failure of governance and of management” — i.e., HER allies in the National and Local Board majorities and HER management and those she appointed such as WBAI’s Interim General Manager LaVarn Williams. The committee narrowly adopted a motion by Justice & Unity member Bob Lederer to stop mailing ballots until there’s a full review by the Elections Committee and the PNB. This motion now goes to the full board for consideration on its Sunday conference call. Come to the meeting! Learn what you can do! |
