Join an urgent community discussion on whether and how we can stop the systematic dismantling of WBAI, done for the past four years by Pacifica National Board and management, and now gaining speed:

•    Many programs by and for communities of color and other shows focused on grassroots activism, and/or their producers, have been removed, forced out, or cut back – and done without any process or consultation with producers.

•    Three-quarters of the paid staff has been laid off, including the entire news department and the morning and afternoon drive-time hosts and producers, and have yet to receive their required severance payments.

•    Almost nonstop on-air fundraising, often resorting to repetitive infomercial-type promotion of health products.

•    Despite this, considerable failure to meet fundraising goals and thus, continuing deficits.

•    Pacifica National management’s interference in local decisions, including arbitrarily moving managers in and out.

Now the Pacifica National Board is considering LEASING OUT THE STATION to an outside organization, which would likely mean loss of control over most programming, potentially wiping out many remaining community shows. A Request for Proposals was circulated with a November 6 deadline.

Hear a report on what happened at the National Board meeting in Houston on Nov. 8-11.

Join as we plan our organizing to reverse this growing danger to this crucial resource for community education and empowerment.
