WEDNESDAY, JULY 15TH IS UPON US!
If you want a direct say in who makes decisions about WBAI so you can help undo the coup, be sure to become a member by this Wednesday, July 15. Members will receive ballots in September to vote for the Local Station Board. A donation of $25 or more makes you a voting member. If you’re not sure that you’ve contributed at least $25 or volunteered 3 hours since July 16, 2008, follow the directions below:
HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER
At this late stage, the safest method is to make an ONLINE donation of $25 or more via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or PayPal. Just go to http://www.wbai.org and then go to “Support WBAI” and
then “Credit Card Donation” — or go directly to http://wbai.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9953&Itemid=136. Be sure to print your receipt.
You could also take your donation (check, cash, money order, Amex, Visa/MC, debit or credit card) to the station at 120 Wall Street (corner of South Street) during regular business hours – again, ask for a receipt. You need to call ahead to be entered into the building’s computer for permission to enter — call (212) 209-2800 or 2830.
If neither of these options are possible, you can trying mailing your check/money order to WBAI, 120 Wall St., 10th floor, New York, NY 10005, Attn: Membership/Finance Dept. Check with your post office to see what method will guarantee delivery by Wednesday. In addition, we suggest using Return Receipt Requested, Delivery Confirmation, or another method of getting proof of delivery.

STRONG REASONS TO BE SURE YOU HAVE VOTING RIGHTS IN THE WBAI ELECTION
By Lisa Davis
If you think that these local elections don’t matter, look at all the damage that the usurpers have done within the last six months since they have taken control of the Pacifica Network. (Note: Each local board elects representatives to the Pacifica National Board):
o Unfairly fired Lonnie Hicks, the Chief Financial Officer for Pacifica (He has since
filed a lawsuit charging racial discrimination and wrongful termination.)
o Attempted to take over the transmitter at WBAI in April and lock out the people
who were then in management positions.
o Blocked entire communities of color (including the Latino, Arab and Indigenous
Community) from membership on the Programming Committee at WBAI.
o Instituted a gag rule in an attempt to prevent producers in opposition to the
coupsters from informing the listenership about what is happening throughout
the network.
o Unfairly fired Bernard White, the progressive Program Director at WBAI and
banned him from the airwaves and the station.
o Unfairly removed Tony Riddle from the position of General Manager at WBAI.
o Wrongfully banned Ayo Harrington, one of the producers of the criminal
justice/prison program, “On The Count,” from the station and airwaves
o Unfairly fired Armando Gudino, the program director at KPFK, who was
responsible for helping to bring in more Spanish language programs
o Unfairly fired Fernando Velasquez, News Director, KPFK
o Unfairly fired Jerry Quickley, producer at KPFK
o Unfairly fired Ron Pinchback, the General Manager of WPFW
o Unfairly removed Don DeBar as Wake Up Call news headline editor at WBAI
o Unfairly removed Mimi Rosenberg from Wake Up Call at WBAI
o Cut “Wake Up Call” by one hour without process or notice and moved Democracy Now into the 8:00 AM spot. (Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez have spoken out against the rescheduling of DN being “used as a weapon by the current management of WBAI against its opponents.”)
