Inclusion on All Sides of the Microphone

Lynne Stewart, Cynthia McKinney, Glen Ford, Margaret Kimberly

Dear WBAI Family,

We persist and we celebrate!

Despite anxiety around school and the virus, unemployment payments, police abuse, and climate disasters, life continues. Our struggle and the work of true allies to end race hate, gender domination, economic exploitation, war, and the destruction of the planet are reasons to preserve and grow the only radio network that shares this mission.

PLEASE GET INVOLVED!

WBAI members recently defeated the attempt to remove the “community” from community radio. And we’re now building a strong Local Station Board because as the board goes, so goes the station!

We want a Board that:

1) ensures that community needs assessments will be done and the results utilized, and

2) requires a programming plan that includes rational evaluations, staff development, and respect for workers

3) supports incorporating youth and other marginalized people into the programming schedule

We want a management that knows how to create community, form partnerships, and inspire teams that are deliberately representative of our listening area.

Choosing board members is not a matter of selecting people who use comforting words and modulated tones. Do not be lulled by those who claim all is well or who dismiss demands for fairness and transparency as “bureaucratic”. Here’s what motivates our work for a sustainable, equitable station:

Don’t just “hope” things work out, vote the way your heart beats.

We are not waiting to be invited, we will have our seats at the table!
