Lynne Stewart, Justice & Unity member of the Local Station Board, resigned on September 23. Under the Pacifica by-laws, whenever there’s a local board vacancy, the next highest vote-getter from the preceding election automatically takes the vacant seat. That person is Nana Camille Yarbrough, also from Justice & Unity.

STATEMENT FROM LYNNE STEWART
SINCE MY ELECTION COINCIDED WITH MY SUDDEN REMAND TO FEDERAL PRISON, WE HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING TO GIVE ME MY VOICE ON THE BOARD. IN THIS SUPER ELECTRONIC AGE IT SEEMS BEYOND BELIEF THAT I CAN BE SILENCED. NONE THE LESS, I HAVE MANAGED TO MAINTAIN A PRESENCE, IF NOT A VOICE, BY DISCUSSING BROAD ISSUES WITH OTHER MEMBERS, PARTICULARL THOSE ON THE JUSTICE AND UNITY TICKET.
AT THIS TIME, IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME PERSONALLY AND POLITICALLY TO REMAIN ACTIVE. OUR TIMES ARE CRYING OUT FOR REDRESS OF GR IEVANCES–THE ENDLESS HUMAN SACRIFICE OF YOUNG SOLDIERS AND CIVILIANS IN BRUTAL NO-WIN WARS OF OCCUPATION AND PLUNDER: A NATURAL WORLD IS DISAPPEARING MORE QUICKLY THAN IN THE WORST APOCALYPTIC MOVIE; THE DUMBING DOWN OF A FORMER VIBRANT POPULATION, CORRUPTION UNCHECKED AND EXPANDING IN EVERY FACET OF OUR LIVES. RACISM, IN FORMS OLD AND NEW HAVE NEVER BEEN DEFEATED AND SEEMS TO BE SWELLING ITS VICIOUS LIFE THREATENING DEEDS TO REACH INTO ALL OF OUR LIVES. WE NEED SACRIFICE AND HONESTY; NOT PERSONALITY AND PAYOFF.

Dear Nia,
Please read the following statement into the record for me:
I am sorry that Lynne Stewart is not free to be among us and that no way was created for
her input because she has a lot to contribute. However, I am pleased to be able to formalize
my relationship with the station and look forward to replacing Lynne on the WBAI LSB effective
Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 and, working to restore and strengthen this community asset.
Unfortunately, due to prior commitments, I will not be able to attend tomorrow’s meeting but will see you all at our next meeting on October 13th.
In the meantime, I’m asking to be added to the email groups etc. so that I can become current on the work of the board.
