The “lame-duck” Pacifica National Board (PNB) will hold its next — and supposedly last — meeting via conference call on Fri., Jan. 21, at 8:30 PM, and the following motions are very likely to come up for a vote. (Earlier meetings did not get as far as these items.)
One pair of motions — both retroactive “bills of attainder” to punish someone without a trial — would disenfranchise WBAI’s voters by allowing the removal of former Program Director Bernard White from not only the board to which he was elected by the widest vote, but also from membership in WBAI/Pacifica. Another motion would require WBAI’s Local Station Board (LSB) meetings to be held over the phone, thus restricting participation to a privileged few, and allowing the LSB to make decisions about our station without ever having to face those affected.
Please read on about why these proposals are grossly unethical, compromise the integrity of the Pacifica Foundation, and violate the Pacifica Bylaws – and c and please copy us at info@justiceunity.org – see additional details below).
See below a new statement by PNB member Nia Bediako explaining her opposition to the motion to mandate that LSB meetings be held by phone. Note: You can hear the live webstream and later the recorded archive at www.kpftx.org .
