Bernard White
Longtime Pan-Africanist scholar and community activist Elombe Brath became an ancestor on May 19. He would have been 78 on September 30. Join Bernard White and Dred Scott Keyes with Elombe’s brother, Kwame, and son, Cinque, for an on-air tribute to Elombe’s genius on Friday, October 24, from 3-6 PM. 3. EMERGENCY ACTIONS AGAINST SILENCING OF MUMIA & OTHER PRISONERS IN PA.
Pennsylvania state legislators, acting at the urging of the Fraternal Order of Police, have just overwhelmingly passed a bill (the “Revictimization Relief Act”) in retaliation for the commencement address given by Mumia Abu-Jamal at Goddard College. Gov. Corbett will sign the bill today (Tuesday). In the words of a Call to Action signed by a wide range of organizations, including the Center for Constitutional Rights and National Lawyers Guild, “the laws affords virtually unlimited discretion to District Attorneys and the Attorney General to silence prisoner speech, by claiming that such speech causes victims’ families ‘mental anguish.’ This law targets both prisoners’ speech and supporters who sponsor that speech.”
