Undo the Coup! Stop the Purge at WBAI and Pacifica!
Look at all of the damage that the usurpers have done within the last six
months since they have taken control of the Network:
* Unfairly fired Lonnie Hicks, the Chief Financial Officer for
Pacifica (He has since filed a lawsuit charging racial discrimination and
wrongful termination.)
· Attempted to take over WBAI’s transmitter in April and lock out
the people who were then in management positions.
· Blocked entire communities of color (including the Latino, Arab
and Indigenous Community) from membership on the Programming Committee at
WBAI.
· Instituted a gag rule in an attempt to prevent producers in
opposition to the coupsters from informing the listenership about what is
happening throughout the network.
· Unfairly fired Bernard White, the progressive Program Director
at WBAI and banned him from the airwaves and the station.
· Unfairly removed Tony Riddle from the position of General
Manager at WBAI.
· Wrongfully banned Ayo Harrington, a union shop steward and one
of the producers of the criminal justice/prisoner program, On The Count,
from the station and airwaves
· Unfairly fired Armando Gudino, the program director at KPFK, who
was responsible for helping to bring in more Spanish language programs
· Unfairly fired Fernando Velasquez, News Director, KPFK
· Unfairly fired Jerry Quickley, producer at KPFK
· Unfairly fired Ron Pinchback, the General Manager of WPFW
· Unfairly fired Don DeBar as Wake Up Call news headline editor at
WBAI
· Unfairly removed Mimi Rosenberg from Wake Up Call at WBAI
· Cut Wake Up Call by one hour and moved Democracy Now into the
8:00am spot. (Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez have spoken out against DN being
used in this way)
